Mr. Akshay Prasad, 18 Yrs Old
Intellectual & Developmental Disability, Pre-Vocational Training
About Akshay
Akshay Prasad, an 18-year-old with Intellectual and Developmental Disability, joined Seva-in-Action (SiA) in 2019as part of the Pre-Vocational Training Program.

When Akshay first joined, he faced emotional challenges — often screaming or crying for long hours, recalling past experiences and struggling to express himself. The dedicated trainers at SiA gently supported him, working patiently to help him find comfort and stability in his new environment.

Finding Focus Through Activity
The SiA team began engaging Akshay in various structured activities to divert his mind and channel his energy positively. These included:

-
Arranging and organizing items
-
Folding clothes
-
Helping others
-
Meeting and interacting with friends
-
Reading, writing, and playing
-
Music and dance sessions
Through these simple yet meaningful activities, Akshay slowly began to relax and enjoy his daily routine. His emotional outbursts reduced as he found joy and satisfaction in productive tasks.

Discovering His Fine Motor Skills
The trainers soon discovered Akshay’s strong interest and aptitude for fine motor activities. He enjoyed solving puzzles, performing basic sums, and reading or writing short words and sentences.

To enhance his coordination and patience, SiA introduced him to woolen mat weaving using a frame — a skill he learned amazingly fast. This activity not only developed his focus but also gave him a sense of pride and accomplishment.

Recognizing his progress, SiA trained Akshay’s parents to continue similar activities at home, ensuring that learning extended beyond the classroom.

Independence and Family Support
Akshay’s growth soon reflected in his home life. He began to actively help his mother, who works as a tailor — folding stitched clothes, packing them neatly, and arranging them in covers. He also prepares tea for himself and his mother, and assists with household chores independently.

Even during the pandemic, Akshay continued his routine with the support of his parents, maintaining his skills and confidence.

Next Steps
Seeing Akshay’s steady progress and growing independence, the SiA team plans to guide him from Pre-Vocational Training to Skill Development Training, where he can enhance his practical abilities and explore new vocational opportunities.

A Journey of Transformation
Akshay’s story is a beautiful example of how patience, structured support, and family involvement can help turn emotional struggles into personal strengths. Through the nurturing environment at Seva-in-Action, Akshay continues to move forward — from emotional dependence to independence, and from challenges to confidence.

“With encouragement and care, Akshay has turned his energy into purpose — ready to take the next step toward a bright and meaningful future.”
